Partnership with Google and provider will improve access to information about electric car charging stations
April 19, 2011
U.S. Department of energy national renewable energy Laboratory (NREL), Google and more than 80 leading organisations in electric vehicle (EV) deployment will work to provide accurate and current information on the locations of the electric car charging stations for consumers and industry. Through the partnership generated data on DOE's online alternative fuels and advanced data center (AFDC), which managed and funded by DOE's is clean cities initiative by NREL accommodate vehicles.
The partnership, called the GeoEVSE Forum, links Google mapping technologies and experience install together with the industry leaders, the charging stations in communities across the nation. This goal of this new collaboration is a primary data source for GPS and mapping services tracking electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) places - or charging stations produce.
"Through this cooperation, key actors come together from electric vehicle and online mapping for a consistent source of consumers find survey station location data to which each charging station in the country," said project manager NREL Witt sparks.
Although the most EV charge on drivers houses will be held, public charging stations extend the plug-in electric vehicles, the consumer more choice for the collection of while on travel. The partnership will ensure that consumers have to upload access station location data, including all manufacturer and charge networks.
The GeoEVSE Forum consists of more than 80 public and private-sector organizations, including equipment manufacturers, installers, charge and charge networks. Vehicle manufacturers; Internet and GIS companies; and large consumer goods retailers survey offer planning shop front. Participants includes companies such as Coulomb, Pacific gas and electric co., Tom Tom and best buy.
"Google part of the Forum GeoEVSE and EVSE location data with users of Google maps, share is excited", said Cynthia YEUNG of Google's strategic partnerships team. "We are proud of it, help drivers to plug in."
DOE's alternative fuels and vehicles are already advanced data center the consumers with the locations of more than 600 EV charging stations through the alternative fueling station Locator (www.afdc.energy.gov/stations). The EV and alternative fuel station information by the AFDC is available to third parties for use in www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/data_download.
The GeoEVSE Forum strengthen the collection, cataloguing and publishing information about charging stations, visit the website AFDC. Visit www.afdc.energy.gov/geoevse for more information about the partnership.
NREL is the Department of energy's primary national laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development. NREL is operated by the Alliance for sustainable energy, LLC for DOE.
