a few months back, Google brought latitude, its location sharing service, check-ins by Google maps 5.1 for
Android. Of course, iPhone users only recently get the same functionality, but some would argue that they are at all should be thankful. (Joke.) Kind of.) Now, latitude's inching closer to direct
competition with four
square and GroupOn of check-in offers from retailers such as RadioShack,
American Eagle, Quiznos, and finish line. Google is currently about a dozen nationwide partner Namechecking, and this list will certainly increase as the train approaches Mach 5. Curious how this all works? Check-in at the Radio Shack, for example, and possibly get off 10% an in-store to buy. Offers are at latitude's three-tier status system; at check-in frequency, building better deals means higher status.
